This is a series of acrylic/oil pastel landscape and portrait paintings. It evolved from working with oil pastel landscapes and looking at Mark Rothko's paintings, which featured floating blocks of color. After finishing the landscapes series, I explored the same techniques with human figures, specifically portraits.
I am an art student in college who wants to be a doctor. Why not? Leonardo da Vinci was both a scientist and an artist. He is my hero. Thus, I am toiling with my studies and I somehow I find time to paint. I usually paint while listening to my music collection, which includes Shakira, Wyclef, incubus, Snoop dogg, Miles Davis and almost anything with a good beat and melody. I like to think of music as one of my influences while working on a piece. I owe what I have accomplished so far, artistically, to my art teachers- Doc, Mr. Barnes and Mr. P. They were awesome. Until today, I can still hear them behind my shoulder. Doc used to say that if one wanted a perfect picture, a perfect replica of the subject, why doesn't that individual just take a picture. So, with
this is mind, I present to you my work. Olé! images ©copyright Michelle Ogues 1976
